This week we have been learning about ‘Christmas’.  This is what we have been learning:

Physical:   This week we have practised our fine motor skills by decorating our class Christmas tree.  We have also been threading beads on to pipe cleaners to make our own Christmas decorations for it!

Literacy:  This week we have read lots of Christmas stories!  Mrs Martin’s English group have written lists of presents they would like for Christmas.  Mrs Chadwick’s English group have written letters to Father Christmas to ask for their presents.

Maths:  This week we have been practising our addition skills, adding 2 groups of objects by counting them altogether.

Understanding the World:  This week we have talked about how we celebrate Christmas with our families.  Some children in our class do not celebrate Christmas and so talked about which festivals they do celebrate.

Expressive art and design:  This week we have painted and drawn pictures of Christmas trees.  We have retold the story of the Nativity in our small world area.   We also performed in our Christmas Musical Extravaganza for our parents.

Phonics:

Mrs Chadwick’s group:

This week we have learnt the sounds:

ng – thing on a string

ai – snail in the rain

ee – what can you see?

We have also learnt tricky words ‘my’ and ‘they’.

Mrs Martin’s group:

This week we have recapped tricky word ‘the’.  We have been practising all of our Phase 2 sounds and focusing on reading and writing CVC words (hat, man, dog etc).
