Safeguarding/Operation Encompass

Safeguarding

At Cheadle Village Primary School we have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of the children. Their well being is paramount.

Cheadle Village Primary School ensures children learn in a safe, caring and enriching environment. Within our PSHE and wider whole school curriculum, our pupils are taught how to keep themselves safe, develop positive and healthy relationships and avoid situations where they might be at risk; including by being exploited. This is supplemented with support from outside agencies such as NSPCC, NHS and Community Police Service.

If we have any concerns that a child may be suffering harm, we have no choice but to refer to Children’s Services when appropriate.

Our  Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is the Headteacher – Miss K Leech.

In the absence of the Headteacher, the Deputy Safeguarding Leads are Mrs A Howard (School Business Manager) and Miss Simpson.

The nominated Governor for safeguarding is Dr C Welch and Mrs A Morrall.

Operation Encompass

Cheadle Village Primary School has been given the opportunity to take part in a project that will run jointly between school and the Greater Manchester Police Force.

The project, Operation Encompass, provides early reporting to schools of any domestic abuse incidents that occur outside of school but which might have an impact on a child attending school the following day. This information will be shared on school days during the school term. When incidents occur on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, the police will contact school the following Monday.

Nominated members of school staff, known as Key Adults, will be trained to liaise with the police. At Cheadle Village Primary School our Key Adults are Miss Leech, Mrs Howard and Miss Simpson. They will be able to use information that has been shared with them, in confidence, to ensure that the school is able to support children and their families. Information will be shared where it is identified that a child was present, witnessed or was involved in a domestic abuse incident.

We always endeavour to offer the best support possible to our pupils and believe that Operation Encompass is going to be beneficial and supportive for all concerned children and families. If you would like more information about this initiative please contact Mrs Howard at the school office.
